Seedling Starts!

Started the seedlings today!

I will update in one week with the growth as most germination period is 7-14 days !

Wow. I'm back!

Last Year I did have a garden. It was all bought. A few rescues... and a few deaths. A lot of flowers.
But it wasn't something I was proud of.
I am proud to make little babies. Start them from seeds. Help them grow into wonderful, seedlings.
Help them go outside. Transplant them into a new space, outside. And watch them grow into successful plants, with big wonderful harvests.

So this is my plan this year. To grow SOME plants from seeds. So far I have :

Annual Bunching Onion
Earliest Mincu Cucumber
Sweet Basil
Sage
Rosemary
Sub Arctic Plenty Tomato ( Made for alberta summers! )

I plan on starting these at the end of April They will have 4+ weeks start by the time they can go outside!

I will also do Some lettuce, radishes, spinach and flowers in the ground in REAL spring.

YEY for seeds!

Wow, Long time nooooo news. Well I did ALL my gardening this weekend. This year I did part container gardening and part Square foot gardening. Big needy plants like Cucumbers & tomatoes just didn't do so well in my SFG last year so I choose to go back to "patio" gardening for them. But the lettuce, carrots & peas did so well having a raised bed.. I choose to keep them in there this year. I hope this year I will get the best of both worlds. :)


These are my "Birdseed sunflowers" that I rescued from underneath my birdfeeder.

This second box is the same as the first exept The mesclun mix lettuce is replaced with radish seeds!

Top 2 pots are oregon spring tomato & patio tomato.

It begins...

So last year was my very first time gardening... anything! and I did rather well. Everything grew.. some things were not quite..usable ( ie.. Tomatoes and peppers) but it was a good learning experience!

Last year I also did gardening "outside the box" and did things in pots... Aka container gardening. It kept a lot of the common problems ( bugs, weeds, soil issues) non existant for me but created some problems like some plants were rootbound, could only grow certain varieties, cost & limited space for so many pots.

So this year I wanted to solve some of my issues and keep the things I avoided... A type of gardening was suggested to me.. Square foot gardening or SFQ for short.

Wiki's definition is " a strong focus on composting, closely planted raised beds with clearly defined areas. Well suited for begining gardeners and people with disabilities"

I bought the book.. I'm reading it... and I'm itching to start this new adventure of gardening!
