Cutest little greenhouse

The other day I bought this cute little greenhouse kit at my local bookstore for 30$. It comes with a tin greenhouse with fiberglass windows, 6 little tin pots & a mini wide & narrow trowel & mini cultivator.

I don't know how I plan to use this little device. If I should use the pots in the greenhouse for flowers or something .. or If I'll purchase some peat pellets and let them grow at the bottom.. & use the pots outside.

The reason I loved this kit is because it's reusable. Instead of buying a plastic kit every year for 10-20$ that really doesn't work all that well.. I bought this one for 30$ and hopefully will use it for a few years.

Now after doing some simple googling of this product I realized that actually this is a good idea and even if you can't find this kit in stores near you .. you can build one

or reuse things like plastic egg cartons as greenhouses

and even buy a all plastic shoebox ( with clear plastic lid or plastic wrap put over the top) and put your peat pellets / little cups in there.. and reuse it over and over!
Just a thought on how to make a cheap thing, helps the enviroment and gets the same job done.

moved. name change. purchasing!

Dampened off plants.. just a little Don't even think you can tell in this picture...

Holy cow.. I was busy today! ... What did I do you ask? Well!

I moved the little dampened off diseased plants & their way too tiny coconut coir pots into a plastic shoebox to give them more space vs. their little pan that had them on top of eachother.
Then I moved this container into my DIY greenhouse ( which is just a clear plastic totebox ) and moved that OUTSIDE! thats right.. babies are outside!

Then I decided to change the name of my blog to PLEASE GROW. It's a cute little rock I bought at the garden center today and thought that is was too fun.. So Fun I want my blog to be called that ..

and then!

I WENT to the garden center. With the truck. Trying to conver Square feet to Liters or Lbs is impossible, I guessed everything! And there is NO and I mean absolutly NO way for me to get my hands on vermiculite! I called several places. Places only have the 9L bags meaning I'd have to get 56 bags. This is all pre-figured out for me here

Exept this lady had success where as I don't. So I am going to settle on something called Zeolite. It is very similar.. and I saw it at the garden store. I hope it works.
I also switched the ingredients from Peatmoss to Coconut coir which is much more enviromentally friendly too!
aannnnd got this very special soil called Sea soil compost soil.. its beautiful stuff.

Anyways.. Today was a good day and I hope my plants do well.

Off topic - BOYCOTT BP

( First off... It's snowing where i live right now.. Everything is indoors, growing at the same rate or anything that was outside is now in.. and their growth in being stunted by the lack of sunshine and outdoors. )

Now!

I'm not an environment hippy. I don't ride my bike to work everyday or only consume products that are found in garbage cans.. BUT I am concerned about the environmental footprint I leave and try to do my part in helping the environment out ..

AND I AM a huge animal lover, And do EVERYTHING in my power to help animals. From the local shelters to the National and International Foundations.

SO to say the least... This BP oil spill simply has me FUMING. The impact it will have on the earth and the animals for years and years has me in tears... And I hope anyone who is reading this.. Realizes this too.. and will also do their part to somehow help this experience IE.

1. Boycott BP

2. Any effort you come across to help the spill, get involved/donate/participate in.

3. Join Boycott BP and other groups on facebook

4. Donate to any foundations that help the environment / the oil spill / the animals being affected by the oil spill ( my favorite is http://www.nwf.org/)

etc..

And thank you in advance for your help!

one more eco step..

So I went to go get the mckenzie peat pellets for tomato seeds I got last year.. And wasn't able to find them :( so I found these other ones.. By planters pride/ Fiber grow. That our enviromentally friendly and are made of "fiber" aka coconut coir.. They are smaller but were way cheaper too.. so I bought 2 just incase i needed to space them out.

Well when I got home I realized how cool these little guys are.. & why peat pots are not so great. Peat is a limited resource, that creates a unique ecosystem.. and when it is removed it causes great stress to it's natural enviroment.

So what the heck! Here we go Mr. Fiber.

And to anyone else.. To find out more about these cool products and how they are trying to make horticulture a little more eco friendly visit...
